The Government has announced additional financial measures to support businesses affected by Covid-19.
These measures include grants to cover the period Wakefield was in Tier 2 restrictions, as well as the period of national restrictions.
Leisure, Hospitality and Accommodation businesses that occupy premises can access funding to cover the period 14th October 2020 to 4th November 2020.
Businesses legally required to close from the 5th November 2020 to 2nd December 2020 can access up to £3000 to cover the 28 days of national restrictions.
Additional funding is available from 1st November for those businesses legally forced to shut down from 23rd March and who have not been allowed to reopen; Nightclubs, Dancehalls, Discotheques, Sexual Entertainment Venues and Hostess Bars.
What will I receive?
A pub is affected by Tier 2 restrictions, and from 5th November is legally required to close. They will receive a single payment to cover the period 14th October 2020 to 2nd December 2020.
A non-essential retail business is legally required to close from 5th November. They will receive a single payment to cover the period 5th November to the 2nd December 2020.
A nightclub has been forced to close since March 2020. They will receive a single payment to cover the period 1st November 2020 to 2nd December 2020.
Q. HOW DO I APPLY FOR A GRANT?

Q. WHAT IS THE TURNAROUND TIME FOR APPLICATIONS?
A. Businesses will be notified of the decision and payment made to them within 10 working days of receiving the application and any relevant supporting documentation.
Q. IF I AM ELIGIBLE FOR MORE THAN ONE GRANT, FOR EXAMPLE I AM A LEISURE, ACCOMODATION OR HOSPITALITY BUSINESS WHO COULD HAVE RECEIVED A TIER 2 GRANT, AND CONTINUE TO BE LEGALLY MANDATED TO CLOSE DUE TO NATIONAL RESTRICTIONS, DO I NEED TO MAKE MORE THAN ONE GRANT APPLICATION?
A. No – there is one single application form, if you are deemed eligible for more than one grant this will be awarded as part of one process and we will notify you within 5 working days of your application.
Q. IF I AM A BUSINESS WHO IS LEGALLY MANDATED TO CLOSE, HOWEVER I PAY MY BUSINESS RATES THROUGH MY LANDLORD, WILL I STILL BE ABLE TO CLAIM THE NATIONAL RESTRICTIONS GRANT?
A. Please complete the application form fully, we will contact you within 5 working days of your application to discuss this further.
Q. I RECEIVE SMALL BUSINESS RATE RELIEF, AND THEREFORE DON’T PAY ANY RATES. DO I NEED TO TICK YES WHERE IT ASKS IF I AM A RATE PAYER?
A. Yes. As you receive SBRR you will still be on the ratings list and receive a statement for business rates. Please tick yes to this question, and input your business rates reference number which can be found on your latest rates statement.
Q. MY BUSINESS IS LEGALLY MANDATED TO CLOSE, HOWEVER I AM STILL OPEN FOR LIMITED TRADING, FOR EXAMPLE, I AM A PUB WHO IS CLOSED, HOWEVER, I SELL TAKE AWAY ALCOHOL, OR I AM A NON-ESSENTIAL RETAIL SHOP WHO IS MANDATED TO CLOSE BUT I OFFER A CLICK AND COLLECT SERVICE, AM I STILL ABLE TO RECEIVE THE GRANT?
A. Yes, as your main business is legally mandated to close you are still eligible to receive the national restrictions grant even if you are still providing a restricted trade.
Q. IF MY BUSINESS IS NOT LEGALLY MANDATED TO CLOSE, HOWEVER I AM SEVERLEY IMPACTED DUE TO RESTRICTIONS, OR I HAVE VOLUNTARILY CLOSED AS IT IS NOT FINANCIALLY VIABLE TO REMAIN OPEN, WILL I BE ELIGIBLE FOR A GRANT?
A. No, there are 3 grants available at this time:-
- Local Restrictions Support grant for businesses subject to Tier 2 restrictions, these are Leisure, Accommodation and Hospitality.
- Local Restrictions Support Grants for Night Time Entertainment Venues, who have been forced to close from March 2020, these are nightclubs, dance halls, discotheques, sexual entertainment venues and hostess bars.
- National restrictions support grant, for businesses who have been legally mandated to close due to national lockdown, a full list of businesses can be found here.

Q. WHEN DO BUSINESSES HAVE TO HAVE BEEN TRADING IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE NATIONAL RESTRICTIONS FUNDING?
A. The business must have been trading the day before restrictions came into force.
Q. IF I HAVE JUST STARTED A NEW BUSINESS AND I AM LEGALLY MANDATED TO CLOSE, WILL I STILL QUALIFY FOR A GRANT?
A. If your business meets qualifying criteria below, you will still be able to receive a grant:-
- open as usual before any restrictions were in place
- registered for business rates at the premises as of the 5th November 2020
- required to close down due to the restrictions imposed by the government
Q. WILL I BE REQUIRED TO PAY TAX ON MY GRANT?
A. All grant payments are subject to tax. Only businesses that make an overall profit once grant income is included will be subject to tax.
Q. DO GRANTS COUNT TOWARDS STATE AID?
A. Yes, by accepting the grant you must confirm you are not in breach of state aid rules please see further information about state aid rules.
