The Wakefield district is set to shine with Mayor, Cllr Kevin Barker, switching on the precinct’s Christmas lights November 17th.

The event will be happening on Friday 17th November, 5.30 pm in the Cathedral precinct and will feature entertainment for all ages. The fun starts from 4pm with music provided by Ridings FM and local singer Micky Johnson.

Five pupils from The Rookeries Carleton Junior and Infant School have won the Northern Powergrid’s Light up Yorkshire competition. They will see their winning design illuminated as part of the Wakefield Christmas lights switch on, along with a mini disco, before the main event.

The city centre will also be home to a Christmas market on Friday 17 November, 10am – 6:30pm, and Saturday 18 November, 10am - 4pm. The market will run alongside the regular outdoor market and include a free carousel in the Bullring, live music, street entertainment plus donkey rides on the Saturday.
