Cedar Court Hotel is backing the Business Improvement District (BID), despite being outside of WF1 by donating hotel rooms for bands playing at Long Division Music Festival.

BID Manager, Elizabeth Murphy and Festival Director, Dean Freeman, want other businesses to get involved and raise their profile through similar contributions.

Thanks to informal discussions lead by Elizabeth Murphy, Cedar Court are donating six of their hotel rooms to the Long Division artists over the festival weekend for free. Additional rooms have also been offered at a discounted rate, accumulating to approximately £1200.

James Lake, Cedar Court General Manager said: “After a change in ownership last November, we really have adopted a new philosophy. We want to become a more integrated part of Wakefield’s business community and support local up and coming talent.”

“With a fun and funky new attitude, we want to show people that we’re not just a big corporate building and that we truly are a part of Wakefield.”

Wakefield BID is hoping that Cedar Court will pave the way for other local businesses to get involved.

BID Manager Elizabeth Murphy said: “With 80 artists appearing in 15 different venues across the four days, it’s a great chance to promote Wakefield as an attractive city with so much local talent.”

“Like Cedar Court, local businesses can take advantage of the increased footfall and raise their own profile through contributions and special offers. Not only will this help the city centre economy, but it will showcase what Wakefield has to offer with it’s fantastic variety of independent shops.”

Dean, Long Division Festival Director, said: "When we bring artists from across the UK to Wakefield for Long Division Festival, we have always prided ourselves on showing them the best time in the city. As well as offering them Jolly Boys' own specially brewed ale we can now also offer them great hospitality at Cedar Court.”

“It all fits into our ambition to improve the perception of Wakefield and spread the word about the great things happening here.”
