The two shopping centres are flying the flag for Wakefield and have beaten off stiff national competition to make the shortlist for the ‘Best Cause-related Event’ category at the high profile Purple Apple Awards.
The Ridings has been nominated for its Cuppa Club campaign, which aims to reduce loneliness through regular events hosted in partnership with AgeUK Wakefield District.
Trinity Walk has been nominated for its Guinness World Record attempt to create the largest gathering of people dressed as a princess to support West Yorkshire children’s hospice, Forget Me Not.
The two shopping centres continue to complement each other and add to Wakefield's overall shopping experience. Wakefield Business Improvement District (BID) welcomes the Purple Apple Award announcement and the promotion it is bringing to Wakefield.
BID Manager, Elizabeth Murphy said: “It’s great that Wakefield’s shopping experience is helping to put Wakefield on the map. Both The Ridings and Trinity Walk offer such a unique experience that cannot be bought online.”
“The fierce competition the centres have already faced demonstrates what Wakefield has to offer, which is what the BID is constantly trying to highlight and stretch even more.”
The awards will take place at The Brewery in central London on May 10.
