Wakefield BID Welcomes Positive Discussions on the Future of Wakefield City Centre

Wakefield BID was pleased to meet with Council Leader Karl Johnson and members of the new Cabinet Administration this week for constructive discussions centred on the future of Wakefield city centre.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders to discuss a shared ambition for regeneration, stronger partnership working and creating a city centre that continues to grow as a place where businesses can thrive and people choose to work, visit and spend time.

One message came through clearly throughout the meeting: it’s time to put Wakefield first.

As the organisation representing levy-paying businesses across Wakefield city centre, Wakefield BID welcomed the opportunity to share the experiences, priorities and aspirations of businesses operating in the heart of our city.

From investment and regeneration to the everyday opportunities and challenges facing the city centre, it was encouraging to see these conversations approached with openness, collaboration and a genuine willingness to listen.

“Wakefield is at its best when businesses, partners and local organisations work together towards a shared vision. We welcomed the opportunity to sit down with the new Cabinet Administration, share the experiences of our levy-paying businesses and have open, honest conversations about the future of our city centre. The message to put Wakefield first is one we share, and we’re looking forward to building on these discussions to help deliver positive outcomes for our businesses, residents and visitors”

Danny Critchely, Wakefield BID Manager

Strong partnerships have always been central to the work of Wakefield BID. Creating a vibrant, welcoming and successful city centre cannot be achieved by one organisation alone. It relies on businesses, local authorities, partner organisations and the wider community working together towards shared goals.

The meeting marked an encouraging first step in building those relationships with the new administration. While conversations are important, what matters most is turning ideas into meaningful action that supports businesses, attracts investment and strengthens Wakefield city centre for everyone.

Wakefield BID remains committed to representing the interests of its levy-paying businesses, championing the city centre and working collaboratively with partners to help shape a positive future for Wakefield.

We would like to thank Council Leader Karl Johnson and members of the Cabinet Administration for inviting Wakefield BID to take part in these early discussions, and we look forward to continuing those conversations in the weeks and months ahead.

As these discussions develop, we look forward to sharing further updates on the projects, partnerships and initiatives that will help support the future of Wakefield city centre.
