Cleaning & Appearance
Making Wakefield look its best, every day.
Our Street Ranger is equipped to clean and refresh key areas of the city centre, tackling dirt and grime before it builds up. We go beyond what council street teams cover – focusing on problem areas, responding to business requests, and targeting locations that need extra care.
We use a high-pressure jet washer to clean pavements, shopfronts, walls, and alleyways. This helps remove staining, spills, moss, and built-up grime from high-footfall and overlooked areas, making streets look brighter and more cared for.
Tags, spray paint, stickers and fly-posters are removed from shutters, walls, bins, lampposts and other street fixtures. Fast removal helps discourage repeat offences and keeps the city looking clean and professional.
We provide a basic graffiti removal service. Not all graffiti can be removed, but we’ll assess each case and offer the most suitable solution where possible.
Our equipment allows for targeted gum removal from key pedestrian areas and outside busy shops. Gum blights pavements and is costly to remove – we tackle it before it builds up.
We pick up litter and clear dumped rubbish daily, especially in hard-to-reach areas like ginnels, doorways, alleyways and car parks that may fall outside the council’s regular cleaning routes.
Early-morning cleaning in front of shop entrances ensures businesses start the day with a clean, welcoming appearance. This can make a huge difference to footfall and first impressions.
Maintenance & Improvements
Small tasks that make a big impact.
A well-kept public realm improves pride, perception and footfall. The Street Ranger carries out light maintenance and painting work across the city centre to help maintain a polished, professional appearance.
We repaint street furniture like bollards, benches, planters, bins, and railings to cover up rust, wear and tear or graffiti. Keeping these fixtures tidy helps maintain a well-kept, pleasant environment.
BID members can benefit from light painting and cosmetic touch-ups to their business exterior – such as flaking woodwork, scuffed paint, or worn signage surrounds. It’s a simple way to keep your shopfront looking fresh and welcoming without the need for a full repaint.
This service is free for BID members. While we hold a small stock of basic materials, availability isn’t guaranteed – so we may ask you to provide specific items, such as the correct colour paint or specialist finishes, for work on your property.
We regularly wipe down and wash public benches, bins, signs, and railings – removing grime, bird mess, stickers or dirt buildup. It’s the little things that keep Wakefield looking polished.
We help maintain Wakefield BID’s floral planters, hanging baskets and green spaces by watering, weeding, tidying and replacing dead or damaged plants. A bit of greenery makes a big difference to the feel of the city.
Safety & Support
A visible presence to deter issues and support businesses.
The Street Ranger isn’t just about cleaning – they also support Wakefield’s safety efforts. As a visible presence in uniform, the Ranger helps deter low-level antisocial behaviour, supports businesses with crime reporting, and acts as another set of eyes and ears on the street.
Visitor & Business Engagement
Creating a friendlier city for visitors and businesses alike.
As well as tackling the visual side of the city, the Street Ranger also helps people feel welcome. Whether it’s pointing visitors in the right direction, assisting with events, or checking in with businesses, they help make Wakefield more connected and approachable.
