Marketing and Events Executive

Reporting to: Chief Executive – Wakefield BID
Salary: Up to £27,500 per annum (depending on experience)
Hours: Full time (37.5 hours per week)

Wakefield Business Improvement District (Wakefield BID) is seeking a confident, creative and highly organised Events and Marketing Executive to lead the delivery of our events, campaigns and city-centre marketing activity.

This is a key role within a small, ambitious team, working directly with the Chief Executive and acting as the sole Events and Marketing function within Wakefield BID. The successful candidate will take ownership of delivery while working closely with businesses, partners and colleagues to increase footfall, engagement and civic pride across Wakefield city centre.

About Wakefield BID

Wakefield BID represents over 400 businesses and works to make Wakefield city centre a safer, cleaner and more vibrant place to work, visit and invest. We deliver major events, marketing campaigns, business engagement activity and crime-reduction initiatives, working in partnership with businesses, Wakefield Council, the police and other stakeholders.

Alongside Wakefield BID, the role also supports Ey Up Wakefield, our consumer-facing brand promoting the city centre to residents and visitors.

The role

As Events and Marketing Executive, you will lead the day-to-day planning, promotion and delivery of Wakefield BID and Ey Up Wakefield events and campaigns. This is a hands-on role that combines event delivery, content creation, digital marketing, business engagement and reporting.

You will be trusted to manage your own workload, take initiative and represent Wakefield BID professionally at events and meetings across the city.

Key duties and responsibilities

Events and campaign delivery

  • Plan, coordinate and deliver Wakefield BID and Ey Up Wakefield events, including logistics, on-the-day delivery and professional representation

  • Support the development and delivery of campaigns, trails and city-centre initiatives designed to increase footfall, engagement and civic pride

Marketing, content and digital

  • Manage and regularly update the Wakefield BID and Ey Up Wakefield websites, ensuring content is accurate, engaging and up to date

  • Create, film, edit and publish marketing content, including social posts, short-form video and reels

  • Create, schedule and manage social media content using appropriate scheduling tools (e.g. Publer or similar), responding to enquiries and engaging with businesses and the public

  • Ensure all marketing and communications activity aligns with Wakefield BID and Ey Up Wakefield brand guidelines, tone of voice and key messaging

Business engagement, logging and promotion

  • Work closely with Wakefield city centre businesses to encourage participation in events, promotions, trails and campaigns

  • Log all activity, campaign delivery and business engagement accurately to support reporting, evaluation and accountability

  • Attend and represent Wakefield BID and Ey Up Wakefield at external promotional events, networking sessions and public engagement activity

  • Support wider city-centre engagement, ensuring businesses are kept informed about upcoming initiatives

Communications, partnerships and insight

  • Coordinate email marketing activity using appropriate platforms (e.g. Mailchimp or similar)

  • Support the development of sponsorships and partnerships for events and campaigns

  • Collect business feedback and support basic data analysis to help evaluate the impact of activity

Branding, administration and support

  • Support the upkeep and monitoring of city-centre branding assets, including window displays, digital screens and promotional signage

  • Assist with general administration, including responding to enquiries, liaising with suppliers and maintaining accurate records

Knowledge, training and experience

  • Experience in marketing and/or events, ideally within place-based, business, tourism or hospitality settings

  • Experience using social media scheduling platforms (e.g. Publer or similar tools)

  • Experience creating digital content, including video and short-form social media content

  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently

  • Confident using Microsoft Office and content creation tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite or similar

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • A creative mindset with strong attention to detail

  • Comfortable working autonomously while contributing positively to a small, collaborative team

  • Knowledge of Wakefield’s business or cultural landscape is desirable but not essential

Personal qualities

  • Proactive, confident and self-motivated, with the ability to take ownership of work

  • Professional, approachable and credible when representing Wakefield BID externally

  • Highly organised, with strong planning and prioritisation skills

  • Flexible and adaptable, including willingness to work evenings, weekends and at public events

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and brand consistency

  • A positive team player who works well with colleagues, businesses and partners

Additional information

This role will involve same evening, weekend and bank holiday working to support events and city-centre activity.
