Wakefield BID is proud to have sponsored this year’s Wakefield Hospice Abseil Challenge, which took place at the iconic Wakefield Cathedral. Over the weekend, 36 fearless fundraisers abseiled 164 feet down the cathedral tower, raising vital funds for Wakefield Hospice.
The event was a resounding success, with families, friends, and the local community coming together to support this important cause. The energy of the day was contagious, and the participants not only braved the daring descent but also tackled the climb up the cathedral’s 170 spiral steps to reach the top.
Thanks to the incredible efforts of all involved, the event has raised a staggering £8,000 so far, with more donations still expected to come in. The funds will go directly towards supporting Wakefield Hospice in continuing to provide essential care to those in need.
Alex Cunniff, Events Fundraiser at Wakefield Hospice, said: “As always, we are simply blown away by the exceptional effort shown by our incredible abseilers, not just in completing such a daring challenge but also in raising such an incredible amount. The challenge isn’t just the descent down the cathedral tower, but actually begins with the exhausting ascent up the 170 spiral steps! A special thank you must also go to Wakefield BID, who kindly sponsored the charity abseil this year and have been fantastic supporters of the event throughout the past few months.”
Thomas Wales, Chief Executive of Wakefield BID, commented: “Wakefield BID is delighted to have supported such a meaningful and inspiring event. The Wakefield Hospice Abseil Challenge not only showcases the bravery of its participants but also highlights the strength of community spirit in our city. Wakefield Cathedral is a true landmark of our city, and it was incredible to see it play host to such a remarkable fundraiser. We’re proud to have been part of this event and to contribute to the amazing work that Wakefield Hospice does for our local community.”
