This August Bank Holiday, Wakefield city centre will burst into life with the very first Merrie City Festival – a four-day celebration of music, creativity, and community spirit.
From Friday 22nd to Monday 25th August, the city will be filled with live performances, street theatre, games, workshops, family activities, and plenty of surprises along the way. With something for every age group, the festival is set to bring colour, energy and togetherness to the streets of Wakefield.
What to Expect
- Live Music & Entertainment – From brass bands and choirs to indie acts and buskers, enjoy a wide mix of performances on the main stage outside Wakefield Cathedral and at pop-up locations across the city.
- Family Fun – Take part in playful games, circus and bubble workshops, and creative activities perfect for children and families.
- Fringe Events – Explore a packed programme of dance, arts and crafts, and interactive experiences across different venues.
- Stalls & Local Flavour – Discover brilliant local businesses, traders and food to enjoy throughout the weekend.
The Merrie City Festival is free to attend, and everyone is welcome. Whether you’re dropping in for an hour or planning a full day out, there’ll be something to enjoy around every corner.
