Wakefield BID Featured on BBC News for Tackling Retail Crime

We were proud to see Wakefield BID and the new Safer Wakefield app featured on BBC Look North and BBC News, highlighting the positive work already happening in our city to support businesses and tackle retail crime.

Retail crime and anti-social behaviour continue to be a concern for businesses across the country — but here in Wakefield, we’re already taking action. Wakefield is a safe and welcoming city, and we’re working hard to keep it that way.

Launched by Wakefield BID, in partnership with West Yorkshire Police and Wakefield Council, the new Safer Wakefield app and radio system empowers local businesses to report incidents in real time, build intelligence, and help identify repeat offenders.

“Wakefield is already a safe city – but we want to make it even better. This app helps us gather the evidence, support the police, and ultimately keep crime out of our city centre,”
– Thomas Wales, Chief Executive of Wakefield BID

The app has already been welcomed by businesses like My Eco Baby, featured in the BBC report. Owner Katy Medley explained how the app is helping staff feel safer and giving shops the confidence to share information and act quickly.

Together with the new radio network and continued partnership working, this is just one of the ways Wakefield BID is investing in a safer, stronger city centre for all.
