Wakefield BID Supports National BCRP Awareness Week

Wakefield BID is proud to support National Business Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP) Awareness Week, running from 17th to 23rd March 2025. This week shines a light on the importance of collaboration in tackling business crime, showcasing how partnerships between businesses, the council, and West Yorkshire Police help create a safer, more secure city.

What is BCRP Awareness Week?

Organised by the National Association of Business Crime Partnerships (NABCP), BCRP Awareness Week highlights the proactive work being done across the country to prevent business crime. It demonstrates how intelligence sharing, exclusion schemes, enforcement partnerships, and data-driven approaches help protect businesses from repeat offenders and anti-social behaviour.

Wakefield BID’s Commitment to Business Safety

Wakefield is a fantastic place to do business, and we’re committed to making it even better. Keeping businesses, staff, and visitors safe is a priority, and that’s why Wakefield BID works closely with West Yorkshire Police, Wakefield Council, and local businesses to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour head-on.

As part of BCRP Awareness Week, Wakefield BID will be:

  • Highlighting the role of BCRPs in Wakefield, showing how businesses can benefit from intelligence-sharing and collaborative crime prevention efforts.
  • Encouraging businesses to report incidents, making sure the right data gets to the right people so action can be taken.
  • Sharing examples of crime reduction strategies that work, showcasing how partnership-led approaches have already made a difference in Wakefield.
  • Continuing to strengthen ties with West Yorkshire Police and Wakefield Council, ensuring businesses get the support they need.
  • Preparing for the official launch of Safer Wakefield on Thursday, our new Business Crime Reduction Partnership, which will take our efforts to the next level.

Making Wakefield Even Safer

Thomas Wales, Chief Executive of Wakefield BID, said: “Wakefield is a brilliant city for businesses, and we want to keep it that way. Crime doesn’t just affect individual traders – it impacts the whole community. By supporting BCRP Awareness Week and launching Safer Wakefield, we’re giving businesses the tools, intelligence, and partnerships they need to take control, protect themselves, and make a real difference.”

Last week, Wakefield BID hosted a Retail Crime Roundtable with MP Simon Lightwood, bringing together businesses, local authorities, and West Yorkshire Police to discuss key concerns like shop theft and anti-social behaviour. The event reinforced the importance of working together to improve business security and highlighted the commitment of Wakefield BID to finding real, long-term solutions.

How Businesses Can Get Involved

We encourage all businesses in Wakefield to engage with BCRP Awareness Week, whether that’s by staying informed, reporting incidents, or joining crime prevention initiatives. The more we work together, the stronger and safer our city becomes.
