Wakefield Holds Steady in June with Over 1.4 Million Visitors

Wakefield city centre welcomed 1.41 million visitors in June 2025 — just slightly down on last year, but still a solid result as summer begins to pick up pace.

Year-to-date footfall now stands at over 8.49 million, up 0.8% compared to the same time last year. It’s a clear sign that Wakefield continues to draw people in — and give them reasons to stay longer.

A Loyal Local Base with Steady Reach

Most visitors are still coming from within three miles of the city centre, but June also saw consistent numbers from further afield — especially from high-spend potential areas like LS8.

This shows that Wakefield remains an attractive destination for both local residents and out-of-town visitors.

Longer Visits, Stronger Spend

Average dwell time remained strong at 50 minutes, and a growing number of people stayed even longer — a promising sign that they’re exploring, shopping, dining, and making the most of their visit.

Postcodes like WF2 and LS8 continue to stand out, with spending potential holding firm. These insights can be especially useful for shaping summer offers, promotions, or events.

“Footfall staying steady in June is a really encouraging sign,” said Thomas Wales, Chief Executive of Wakefield BID. “As we head into summer, we’re seeing that Wakefield is still a place people want to visit — and stay a little longer.”
