At this year’s Wakefield BID Awards, the generosity of attendees helped raise an incredible £600 for three local charities. The amount raised has been equally split between My Eco Baby CIC, Wakefield Pride, and Community Foundation Wakefield District, each receiving £200.
The funds were raised through a raffle during the awards evening, which aimed to celebrate the achievements of Wakefield’s business community while also supporting vital causes in our area. The response from attendees was overwhelming, showing just how much the community values giving back.
Here’s a bit more about the amazing charities that will benefit from this fundraising:
- My Eco Baby CIC: This Community Interest Company is dedicated to supporting families with sustainable and eco-friendly baby products, empowering parents to make environmentally conscious choices for their children. They sell used baby and children’s items to prevent them from going to landfill and provide affordable, good-quality clothes, toys, and equipment for sale in their shop. Additionally, they accept donations of baby and children’s clothes, toys, and equipment, which are cleaned and repaired before being displayed for sale. They also donate items like nappies and baby formula to local charities and community groups.
- Wakefield Pride: Wakefield Pride works tirelessly to promote inclusivity and equality for the LGBTQ+ community in Wakefield, providing events, advocacy, and support for individuals of all identities. They organise annual Pride events, educational workshops, and social gatherings to foster a sense of community and belonging. Their mission is to create a safe and welcoming environment for LGBTQ+ individuals in Wakefield and to raise awareness about LGBTQ+ issues.
- Community Foundation Wakefield District: This foundation supports a wide range of charitable initiatives across Wakefield, focusing on social causes that aim to improve the lives of people in the region, particularly those who face disadvantage. They provide grants to local charities and community groups, support initiatives that address poverty and inequality, and work to strengthen the local community through various projects and partnerships.
Thomas Wales, Chief Executive of Wakefield BID, expressed his pride in the community’s generosity: “We are proud to have been part of an evening that not only celebrated local business achievements but also raised funds to help three remarkable causes. It’s a testament to the community spirit that Wakefield BID strives to foster. We look forward to continuing to support these organisations and others in the future.”
Thank you to everyone who participated in the raffle, ensuring that these charities will be able to continue their important work in Wakefield.
