The Ridings Shopping Centre has once again demonstrated its commitment to Wakefield city centre with a significant investment into its infrastructure.
The centre’s red car park, which has been temporarily closed for several weeks, is set to reopen the week commencing 23rd June 2025 following a major resurfacing project. The £250,000 upgrade ensures the outdoor areas of the car park are fit for purpose and future-proofed for the next 40 years – something previous owners had continually deferred.
Mr Iqbal, owner of The Ridings Centre, commented:
“While the investment is substantial, we recognise how vital the car park is – not just for our visitors and tenants, but for the wider city centre. People park here to visit the Cathedral, Theatre Royal, WX Wakefield Exchange and the brilliant mix of businesses Wakefield has to offer.”
Wakefield BID Chief Executive, Thomas Wales, added:
“It’s brilliant to see long-term investment going into key infrastructure like this. The Ridings is an important anchor for Wakefield, and improvements like this show real confidence in the city centre’s future. It’s great news for businesses and visitors alike.”
Wakefield BID continues to work closely with The Ridings Centre and other city stakeholders to ensure Wakefield remains vibrant, welcoming, and well-connected for everyone.
