M.A.D. (Make A Difference) – Let’s Keep Wakefield Looking Its Best!

Wakefield BID is calling on local businesses, residents, and the wider community to get involved in M.A.D. (Make A Difference), a series of volunteer-driven events aimed at keeping Wakefield city centre clean, vibrant, and well-maintained.

The M.A.D. initiative will see a collective effort to improve key areas across Wakefield, with a focus on clean-ups, gardening, painting, and general maintenance work. Wakefield BID has also invested in new equipment, including chewing gum removal machines and high-powered jet washers, to support the ongoing upkeep of the city.

This year’s M.A.D. events go beyond traditional clean-up activities, focusing on long-term improvements to keep Wakefield looking its best all year round. The events will also promote civic pride and build a sense of community engagement, with local businesses and residents encouraged to take part.

Thomas Wales, Chief Executive of Wakefield BID, said:

“Wakefield is a city full of pride, and M.A.D. is all about channeling that pride into action. We’re not just tidying up; we’re investing in Wakefield’s future. By bringing together local businesses and the community, we can make a real difference and ensure Wakefield is a welcoming and vibrant place for everyone.”

Upcoming M.A.D. Events

Wakefield BID has set the dates for three major M.A.D. events this year:

  • M.A.D. for Spring – 21st March
  • M.A.D. for Summer – 19th-20th June
  • M.A.D. for Autumn – 18th-19th October

The initiative is designed to involve businesses, local residents, and volunteers in a series of activities to clean up, maintain, and improve public spaces across the city centre. The focus will be on making Wakefield a cleaner, greener, and more inviting place for everyone who lives, works, and visits here.

How to Get Involved

Businesses and individuals are encouraged to volunteer their time and resources for the M.A.D. events. There are several ways to get involved, including:

  • Volunteering for M.A.D. events: Help with street clean-ups, gardening, painting, and maintenance activities.
  • Providing equipment or resources: Businesses can support the initiative by offering tools, supplies, or other materials needed for the events.
  • Encouraging team participation: Local businesses are encouraged to get their teams involved in the events and make a visible impact together.

“We want as many people as possible to get involved,” added Thomas Wales. “The more we come together as a community, the bigger the impact we’ll have. Whether you’re volunteering for a few hours or offering equipment, every little bit helps.”
